What is Cupping Massage?
Cupping massage is a form of alternative therapy originating in ancient Chinese, Egyptian and Middle Eastern medicine. It involves placing cups on the skin and creating a suction effect — either through heat or mechanical pumps — to draw the skin and superficial muscle layer upward into the cup.
At The Bodywise Clinic, we typically combine cupping with massage techniques (known as massage cupping or dynamic cupping), moving the cups along the muscle groups to provide a deeper myofascial release than traditional stationary cupping.

What About the Marks?
Cupping often leaves circular marks on the skin — ranging from light pink to deep red or purple depending on the level of stagnation and congestion in the tissues. These are not bruises in the traditional sense; they result from the extravasation of blood and metabolic waste brought to the surface. The marks typically fade within 3–7 days.
Is Cupping Safe?
When performed by a trained therapist, cupping is very safe. Your therapist will discuss your health history and any contraindications before beginning treatment. Cupping is generally not recommended over broken skin, varicose veins, bony areas, or for those with certain medical conditions including blood clotting disorders.
